Pronouns and basic verbs

Did you learn by heart the soccer vocabulary ? Great ! Let's learn a few things about building a sentence in French...

First, you have to know the pronoms personnels (personnal pronouns). Here they are:

S/P	French	English
Singulier	je	I
	tu	you
	il, elle, on	he, she, we (but not precise)
Pluriel	nous	we
	vous	you
	ils, elles	they

Do you need some examples ?

Je suis content. = I am happy.
Tu ne m'écoute pas. = You do not listen to me.
Il est chanteur. = He is a singer.
En France, on regarde la télévision trois heures par jour. = In France, TV is being watched three hours a day.
Nous allons à Roland Garros. = We are going to Roland Garros.
Où allez-vous? = Where are you going to ?
Ils sont gentils. = They are kind.

NB: vous is often used when you talk to someone you do not know very well, or to someone important (your boss for example). For example:

Vous avez une très belle maison, Madame. = You have a very nice house, Madam.
Monsieur Gates, vous avez des idées. = Mr Gates, you have some ideas.

Let's try to know more about verbs !

Two of them are very important in any language... to be and to have !
They are irregular verbs at any tense. Have a look at the present tense:

S/P	être (to be)	avoir (to have)
Singulier	je suis	j'ai (*)
	tu es	tu as
	il est	il a
Pluriel	nous sommes	nous avons
	vous êtes	vous avez
	ils sont	ils ont

(*) Please note that je ai becomes j'ai since ai begins by a vowel.

Here are some examples:

J'ai un billet pour France-Autriche. = I have got a ticket for France vs Austria.
Nous sommes très heureux de vous rencontrer. = We are very pleased to meet you.
